Dear Dr. Kar,
Its extremely nice to go through your efforts specially for the dairy farming. I am also planning to start a small scale Dairy farm of 10 cows (HF) to start with. Dairy farming has been my dream project since long. I am now settled in Mumbai and planning to start the farm in Maharashtra around Mumbai. My question now is, can I buy a farm land in Maharashtra even though I am not a farmer ? And what are the procedures to be followed to do so ? Also is it possible to get a loan to buy a farm land ? I will be very grateful if you kindly help me out in making my dream project come true.

Dear DR.A.K.KAR,

I have 2 acres of land in Udumalpet Tamilnadu. Currently the land is plain and no cultivation is done. Planning to make borewell for water source in couple of months. I need help in Quail farming. Can u please throw some light on this and its pros and cons. Whom to contact for any training, it will be helpful if you can share any project report available.

One additional info required is How many goats can be grown with 2 acres (for fodder cultivation) in a stall fed method

Thanks
Venkatesh

Dear Venkatsh
Quail farming requires low investment & minimum floor space. You can market it at 6-8 weeks of age. Quail lay more eggs 250-280 eggs per year & its meat is testier in comparison to chicken meat. So far as constrains are concerned the measure huddle in this business is that you need a government license to start a quail farm. Jungle quail is a protected species therefore you will have to obtain a Government license for commercial quail farming. Market demand of quill egg is very low. Quill meat demand is restricted to urban areas only. Therefore you should make a market study in your locality before starting a quail farm. you can start a goat farm with 40-50 goats in your 2 acres of land. For training & other aspects you can contact your local veterinary officer.

DR.A.K.KAR,

I having 7 years leased 1 Acre of Agri land 80 Kms far from Nashik (Maharashtra) of my Father in Law and he also have 15+ acres cultivated land with good water sources. I had done Dairy farming with 4-5 cows as a family business 5 years back. Now I am doing Job on Sr. Management post in Nasik. I wish to start Dairy farming without fertilizing the Fodder which I will purchase it from local market. I will go for 20 cows initially. Please suggest how much land will required for 20 Cows without own produced Fodder and which cows will produce 20+ Ltrs/Day production and their tentative market cost. The milk rate is not less than 30 Rs. Will this project work in terms of Profit making?

Dear Baba
Please provide the following information so that I can guide you better for your project.
