It is better to come at the end of November , by that time my
Poly House will be ready,
I have been trying unsuccessfully to source seeds of Bhagyamati and Pusa Purple Round.
Bhagyamati is an APAU variety supposed to be fairly resistant to both little leaf and borer, according to the varietal description.
Pusa Purple Round and Pusa purple Cluster are supposed to be tolerant/resistant to little leaf.
However the information is not consistent and the availability not clear.
I say inconsistent because different sources provide different views on the tolerance; for example the attached says Bhagyamati is susceptible to borer, which goes completely against the varietal description itself.
What ever Mr. Ramu says is 100% correct. There are no variety resistant to BSFB. Because of tat reason some Multinational companies have brought Genetic Changes Brinjal (BT Brinjal) by the then Central Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh. Because of the Agitation of the people from all the sectors with experience of BT Cotton, that Proposal was dropped taking into effect on Heath Hazard of Genetic Changed Vegetables. Hence it may not be possible for the Present to Control Stem and Fruit Borer in Brinjal. However we can Control some Extent by using Organic Fertilizers with Organic Pesticides. The Brinjal which ever available in the Market are Grown with Powerful Pesticides.
Further little Leaf is nothing but a Virus disease. Once it attacks , there is no other go except to remove the Plants and Burn to avoid spreading to Other Plants. When the Plant is healthy, there may not be a problem of Virus. In my experience the virus can be avoid by spraying of COW URINE @1-2% at 15 Days intervel mostly can be controlled. The following Links may help you some extent on this Subject:
Your observation is right . The journal report on susceptibility of brinjal to BSFB and mycoplasma caused little leaf disease varies with different scientist that are conducting trial in various location across the globe .The extent of susceptibility of brinjal to the above infestation varies due to cultivation in different season, prevailing weather and soil condition . Even in single and same location the same brinjal variety or hybrids is affected differently due to prevailing temperature and humidity …
we are well aware that the BSFB in brinjal and boll worm in cotton are the prime reason for the introduction of Bt Brinjal .The MNC companies have been introducing new varieties every year that are glossy in appearance with more free sugars and amino acids and almost lacking in or carrying least of polyphenol and glycoalkaloids being the enemy for BSFB.
Since consumers preference vary for different brinjal varieties across all the states in India , we just focus on the varieties rather than pest and disease problem .In northern Tamilnadu people like Ujala brinjal , Western TN EBH and mullukatri ( spiny brinjal) Bangalore people like varikatri for sambhar and green long brinjal for palya and purple long brinjal is marketed in Ceylon …This is the reality …
A farmer in kanchipuram district cultivated green long brinjal but he could not sell his brinjal in coimbedu .
Further the BSFB is a monophagus insect pest on Brinjal .So complete eradication of pest or evolution of resistant brinjal varities seems to be a toughest thing …
However If your good self come across any such brinjal that is prolific bearer vis-a-vis resistant to BSFB , kindly let me know .
Thanks for your elucidation on this special topic with attachment .
Thanks and regards
I am recently join this forum, I own 5 acres of land near Mumbai and interested in farming.
Need your expert comments on how to start with … as I am software engg by profession but also interested in farming. I came across this thread and think Brinjal farming would be good option to start with as the local people near farm are right now cultivating Brinjal as seasonal crop (during rainy season).
Can you suggest whether this can be done whole year ?
I am having bore well with enough water, planning to setup big storage tank which can be used for drip irrigation if needed.
would require suggestion i.e. right from land preparation … basal dose, etc…
Please let me know if any more information is required.
While welcoming to the Forum which is the Backbone to the Farming Community.
Being a software Engineer , I am suggesting you to go for Fruit Plantations.
It is very defficult to maintain Vegetable Farming, because day to day work is
involved. If you spell us your Idea about Fruits, we will suggest you according
to your Choice.
If you go for Poly House it is OK, otherwise Vegetable cultivation is suitable for
full time Farmers. Being you are an absentee Farmer, it is not suggestible.

AS per your guidance I was able to plant successfully all the plants . But off late my ridge gourd leaves are turning white .can you guide me what could be the reason and how to overcome it .
it may be excess watering with nutrient deficiency or it maybe the virus.
I will wait for experts to comment. In the mean while you can try applying ash( boodida) and also neem oil twice in a gap of 2 days.( neem oil 1% strength after evening 4PM)
Quick question on brinjal fruit and shoot borer.
Is there any trap that can be used like fruit trap etc. to control the pest?
Also what is preventive maintenance for this particular pest, other than Neem Kernel Extract.
