Dear sushil
Don’t worry …At least treat this balcony garden as trial piece to learn lot about cultivation …
if leaf curl downward , it is really tiny sucking insect pest feeding under ventral surface of leaves along veins and leaves show puckering …if leaf shows silver line you can confirm it is thrips , a common pest on many vegetables like chilli and tomato …sometime aphid also makes leaves pucker when feeding gregariously …
since your image focus only on dorsal / upper surface only that too distant shot , identification is difficult except saying rightly it is sucking pest …
We are using camera with focus lenses to capture the image of live pest for documentation
yellowing is also caused by nutrient deficiency apart from pest incidence …so you need to check your growing medium that is rightly combined with various component .
Tomato plant shows that your kitchen has cooked lot of fruits for your family …
k Mr.sushil …sucking pest is a serious menace in hybrid vegetable .it requires your attention even before sowing seeds in nursery and further care in early growth phase .Unless otherwise you loose certainly
Trust you are not using any pesticide till date…
Earlier farmer was using 25 rounds of pesticide spray per crop season .The university is using at least 10 to 12 rounds now in addition to organic control methods …
your last discussion fell on July 25…now it is more than 3
2 months …seems you have resumed discussion only after tasting all the harvest from your balcony garden .Great
Regards
Yes I am treating it like lab only, but I am not able to findout the reason of the problem so getting worried.
I am not able to find any pest in the leaves. no silver line as well. I will post few closeup pictures.
I think my tomato plant will die in few days, as far as nutrition is concern I am applying 19-19-19 50 mg. in 1 liter.
The funniest part is I have 2 balconies in one I planted seeds and transplanted the plants to a bigger container and took all care applied nutrition but facing issue in those plants at the same time in my other balcony few chili and tomato plants grow from my kitchen vegetable waste and they grown nicely and I harvested some fruits as well, I never applied any nutrition in those plants. I dint find any issue in those plants.
The seeds which I have used are not hybrid, I have not used any pesticides except neem oil, i suspect some time is this problem because of neem oil application, because in my chili plant the new leaves are not growing properly and they are getting dried and falling and all new flower buds are also behaving in the same way. for your information I have not sprayed neem oil for last 2 weeks.
I have one bitter gourd plant as well, but till now there is no female flower, all male flowers only.
Since last 1 months I was out of station so could not get much update on my balcony garden hence didn’t update much in this forum.
1 month back all plats were doing really good but now after seeing the status I am bit disappointed.
I had one rose plan as well, that was also died I dont know what is happening.
One good news in my balcony garden is this week in my garden we got 5 Brahma Kamal flowers, I hope you are aware of this flower. Attaching the image. Feeling happy for that.
Dear Mr.sushil
flower looks great …Keeping other factors favorable , growing medium , nutrients , water and pest and decease decide the health of plants .Now you say there is no pest , water and nutrient deficiency .Hence it must be your growing medium .
Neem oil has nothing to do with sickness of plants when sprayed up to the concentration of 50,000 PPM , beyond which it kills or abort flowers .
However always plan balcony or terrace garden it a right way …Bcoz out of 100 garden , only 7-10 garden perform well and rest fail adversely .The reason is how perfectly the garden is managed or how bad it is for want of information or knowledge
Regards
Thanks for your reply. I will take few closeup pics and share. That might help you to find out something which I cant.
I was also doubting on the growing medium, is there any way to find out that?
I have prepared medium by adding soil, FYM and sand
the ratio would be 60:30:10.
My experience is for first 1 month the plants are growing really well after that I am facing the issue.
I would appreciate if you can share some knowledge in this regard.
the seedlings age
Brinjal - 30 - 35 days
tomato - 25 - 30 days
chilli - 25 days
gourds - 12-14 days
or till it grows to a height of 20-25 cms …
Pot mix - Soil 60 % , cocopeat 30 % , FYM 10% plus 50 grams each azospirillum , phosphonacteria , 100 grams neemcake powder , 10 grams pseudomonas or tricoderma viride …
Either provide for outlet in each tray to drain excess water
or else fill the tray with just cocopeat only to 2/3 or 3/4 th height , take grown up / ready seedlings in the cup remove just bottom of the cup and place / bury it over the the cocopeat growing medium in such a way that the brim of the cup is in level with top of cocopeat growth medium in the tray and moisten the medium regularly until the plant establish and produce new roots that takes place in a week or 10 days time , then you can keep the growth medium always wet in such a manner that top 1/3 of roots just near the surface is not flooded or overwet .
or you can maintain wetness of growth medium just 2-3 inches below surface .The water will reach root through capillary action .Excess wetness will kill your plants…
start giving nutrient water 1 week after planting seedlings
Nutrient must be given in PPM , that again counts on volume of growth medium used …

Thanks for your early reply . As you mentioned in earlier posts about the seeds , I have brought indo American , east west . Sir , I have few doubts .
1.Will the seedlings grow in paper cups till 30-35 days . As I have seen the ridge gourd is growing vigorously.
2. As you have mentioned bio fertilisers names I have tried in the market they were not available . Do they have particular company names? , so I just brought 1 kg 19-19-19 packet.
3. As you mentioned to just remove bottom part of paper cups , you mean to immerse whole cup inside soil .
This is my future project in my 3 acres farm where I want to grow vegetables and fruits . Please don’t mind if I had asked you silly doubts sir .
Thanks a lot . Sir I was looking for red gram co-rg 7 as you mentioned earlier. I could not find in andhra pradesh in my district. Where can I procure them sir .
I am currently facing some problems with my 4 month brinjal plants.
Now, they have almost stopped flowering and the conversion rate of flowering to fruiting has decreased a lot.
But, the plants have grown to 5 feet height and without no more fruits.
Could you please let me know the cause of it.
cut the old brinjal plant leaving stubble of 15-20 cms from ground level …Withhold water for a week time …Then irrigate the field in the evening .If drip is installed , apply urea water @ 1% concentration . This will revive your plants to produce extraordinary yield of brinjal
Please find attached images for your reference. Please go through them and let me know what could be the possible reason of the problem and what I can do to overcome from this issue.
Since this is happening with all the plants, I have to findout the issue and take required action before planning for next round of seedling.
As seen from the Images, initial Images seems to be Mal-Nutrition or Virus. But it may not be virus as per the Plant Stage. We found thrips on the 2nd and 3rd Image from the Bottom. In conclusion it might be Thrips Immediately Spray Imidacloprid 4Ml /14Lit Plus Dimethoate at 15 Ml for 14 Liters. Definitely it will be controlled. If controlled repeat it at at 21st Day. Simultaneously Foliar spray of Ammonium sulfate or Urea @1% and Zn SO4 @ 0.5 % thrice at 10 days interval from 40 days. All these should Spray separately with 3-4 Dyas intervel Also Spray ISABION 1 PPM. After 5 Days of Spraying Isabion , Kindly send the Images to vasudhagreenfarms@gmail.com and call 9133498366.
Thanks for your reply. I have grown all these plants in my balcony. I have around 10 chili plants only, till today I haven’t used any pesticide.
I think with my balcony garden kind of setup its difficult to apply mentioned pesticide, what do you suggest?
Is there any other way to deal with this situation?
In such be the case you can Spray Neem Oil. If you want Neem oil I can Provide 200 ml. I am in KPHB Colony.
Because it is on Balcony definitely it should be thrift. It can be control with Neem Oil.Kindly call 9133498366.
To avoid such Problems, we are suggest you to go for Hydroponic kit with Screen house for better performance of vegetable Cultivation.
My brinjal plants are now of 65 days. The variety is Akshita F1 (Rasi Seeds)
There are very few flowers and the worst fact is that of number of fruits.
One point to mention is that , there were heavy rains in last few days.
Sir, Please let me know what needs to be done to have some harvest.
Pal ,
Always choose a company for specific vegetable …
For Brinjal use Mahyco , PUSA CO varieties
For inducing flowering , first stop irrigation for 4 -7 days , avoid urea or any nitrogenous fertilizers , After light weathering of brinjal plants , resume irrigation , spray cycocel @ 1 ppm twice at weekly interval , Rest as usual …
Hi Mr.Chandra
The olericulture scientist say the pusa line brinjal like Pusa purple cluster and Arka kusumkar as resistant to BSFB .But in Varanasi , I heard some scientist say no varieties are resistant to BSFB but remain tolerant to some extent …
Like wise there is no brinjal varieties seen resistant to little leaf disease
Only quality control personnel in seed production unit should ensure pest and disease free seeds in the market
in south India I have never seen or heard anybody in Research institute as well as private seed companies say there is any such brinjal variety or hybrid that is resistant to BSFB and little leaf disease
The BSFB is a serious menace all over the world with crop Damage in the range of 30-100 % .Epidemiology study also confer this statement .
