Yes Sir, I am doing it along with sunlight harvesting in my Mango plot.
Canopy, Pruning/thinning & sunlight management in orchard makes difference in getting fruits size & yield.
See the size & uniformity of fruits in 30 months old mango plant in picture.
Mallika is the variety planted about 60 plants per acre (270 no,s for 4.5 acres) distance is not correct to all the plants.
Actually this crop is bonus as per ZBSF method. The crop standing background is made some hope for few in this forum i.e. PAPAYA.
Mango planted in nov-2009, Papaya in Jan 2010. Papaya is over. Retained few plants for our personal interest as well as to notice their performance after 2 year old. Result is good.
Being 25 month old plants given samples now in this season maximum fruits available are about 30 in a plant.
Size is very good.
3d inter crop is already started flowering withing Mango+Papaya+Heere kayi (Zucchini).
Murali,
Mallika sapling purchased from know nursery in my District.
Agriculture is an art of living with whole of sole satisfaction. But nowadays it is defining in terms of economics deviating from its original aim. Accordingly, all will check first about demand of a variety in any crops and select hot favorite variety to meet economics.
Actually if we compare with Malgoa & Benisha (Banganapally) in terms of yield benisha is ok, but in terms of taste Malgoa is better. My grand father planted about 5 plants out of 200 plants in our old orchard. I remember our elders used to retain Malgoa, Neelam, Thothapuri, Badami fruits for our personal consumption while selling mango orchard. Still we having such old good varieties exclusively for our family, friends, relatives etc.
Now instead of our personal consumption & taste, the people are running behind returns from crops.
Since you have Malgoa, trees with you. I think you should use this and graft more number of Malgoa saplings. Yes taste wise Malgoa is good. Even the raw ones are not sour.
Hi?
Set back in Malgoa is fruit bearing capacity.
Malgoa variety will not give regular fruits, one year gives and then next year declines up to 90%.
But taste is good. Its productivity is the problem with quality. However it is common in other varieties also.
Malgoa beats the rate in market if it available, hence still it has got reputation.
Hi?
BANANA BY SUNDARAM,
Mr.Sundaram from Tanjavur district grown Banana contained 24 fingers in each hand and 25 hands in the whole bunch which height is more than 6 feet and weighed about 90 kgs sold for 1000/-
Expenditure for one plant was about rupees 350 divided in to Fertilizers & maintenance of sapling Rs.75/- Supporting pole Rs.75/- Transportation charge Rs.80/- for 50 Km from his farm to market. Harvesting packing & loading charges Rs.20/- Commission paid @ 10% Rs.100/-.
After deducting expenditure of Rs.350/- net Profit is Rs.650/- for one plant. Spacing is 10X10 feet.
Swamy ji, Thanks for the picture but it’s not clear how the earthen pot with only 10-15 litre capacity and no holes in the bottom helps the tree to face extreme heat conditions in peak summer? Please you share your thoughts on this.
Submerge as shown in soil, fill the water fully, close with container made from mud. Even you should cover the ground around the plant including the pot to avoid evaporation. Check next day to know results.
Hi/
Today I visited to Aroville in Pandichery to know more on EM & to meet Prof. Teruo Higa who invented this.
But could not met and met his colleague.
He explains it is very simple to prepare. Training will be given to those who interested if they request well within schedule or based on requests, they can start training for about 3 days. Boarding and lodging will be provided with extra cost.
But without own only two wheeler vehicle, it is highly impossible to reach their office as it needs about 8 KM from East Coastal Road of Pondicherry where last bus route reachable.
I invite any of members who already knows about Effective Microorganism may please share your thoughts and experiences as it may helpful for those who interested on it.
Hi?
Total extent of land cultivated 1.5 acres.
Total expenditure for plugging, sapling replanting, weed control, fertilizers pesticides etc is Rs.50,000/-
Duration of crop is 80 days.
Total yield from 1.5 acres 40 tones.
Rate of produce sold at farm spot @ Rs.11 per kg.
Round figure income 4 lakhs deducting 50k expenditure.
Total income is Rs.3,50,000/- from 1.5 acres in 80 days.
All figure mentioend above are aproximate calculation as farmer is not accurate in maths.
This farmer is next to our farm @ Mulbagal.
Hi?
In last week visit to TN, I had been to a peculiar place of Agriculture & lovely place for good wheather i.e. KOLLI HILLS which is in Namakkal district where almost all agriculture activities of Areca nut, Banana, Black Pepper, Coffee, Paddy, Tapioca and more crops are growing without irrigation facility of bore, well etc. Few farmers having irrigation facility and for others, nature provides the requisite humus and moisture for plant growth, the farmers do mulching and other activities to retain moisture in the soil.
Most of the farmers doing natural farming and they are happy with the out put for their efforts.
34 finger banana is from same Kolli Hills, the farmer has got pump well to feed water to banana.
Red Banana from his farm is also has got decent yield, he refused to give either variety of sucker for my love on Banana.
Other villages surrounding hills also has got very good crops as mentioned above Apart from hill area and it looks like our Karnataka’s Malnad.
Weather is very pleasant for Agriculture as well as touring to see the beauty of nature. Love to revisit if possible.
Hi Biju,
Pepper plants in picture are about 15 year old which are giving about 5 kg dry pepper.
They cultivating with mixed practices, some plants effected with root rot. They do not know about variety exactly.
Expenditure was only for sapling which was about 10 rupees during that time.
Present rate per kg in market is about 300/- for dry pepper.
Now Paniyur series & Kari Munda are good which cost you about rs.30 or more.
Plantation with Areca, Coconut or any other tree crops, best combination is Silver Oak.
This is the right time for planting the sapling.
Sapling must plant towards northeast of host plant.
Plant may start yield more or less at 3 or 4 years.
Initial yield may low, after growing about 6 years, you can expect 2 kg pepper from plant subject to good farming practices.
You know Pepper can also planted in a pot within compound or house in cities too.
Vietnam growing pepper without support of any other trees as growing in India and Vietnam is world leader in production of Pepper.
Thanks Swamy. Couple of my uncles grew pepper as intercrop on a very small scale years back in Kerala (major crop is rubber). I think it got infected by root rot (common problem in pepper cultivation I guess).
Yes, I too had read abt growing pepper (the bush variety) in pots.
One pepper grower shared a technique of reducing root rot - clear the leaves from bottom part of the stem (upto 2 ft from the ground) and mulch the ground around the stem of the vine thereby preventing the splashing of rain water after it hits the ground. The main reason for root rot is the muddy water spalshing on to plants in the rainy season. Leaves at the bottom increase the surface area available and thereby increase the chances of root rot.
Don’t know how effective the techniqie is, as I personally haven’t tried it yet, my pepper saplings are very small. The grower vouches for the effectiveness though.
