AGRICULTURE TOURISM - touring to study farm success stories

Hi All,

One question, Does plants like alcohol ;D ;D ?

Reason being I could see all the liquids done, has some jaggery put in and left for some days. So some amount of alcohol is being generated !! Then sprayed on to the plants.

Murali,

Natural / Spiritual farming takes the soil micro environment into consideration and not the plant itself. The belief is that if the micro environment is healthy, the plants are naturally taken care of. All liquids (jeevamrita, panchagavya, etc) do not take the plant into consideration but the soil microbes. And maybe small amounts of alcohol is beneficial to the growth of these microbes, I don’t know.

Cheers,
AK

Hi Murali,

Interesting question, that is…

I guess alcohol (polyviny alcohol) is used as a coating in most of the slow releasing chemical fertilizers.
Most of the alcohol is sugar based. So I guess it can be used in moderate quantity to increase the activity of soil microbes. I have personally used little bit of beer (spraying on ever couple of layers) as well as coke in my home garden while making compost. Don’t know if that made any difference though.

Alcohol (especially beer) is very effective in controlling slugs/snails in your garden. I have tried this one too. :stuck_out_tongue:

So the million dollar question is, if we should use alcohol as fertilizer/pesticide or use it more effectively (you know what I mean).

Hi AK and Biju,

With the rates going on for the bottled ones, I am having second thoughts on sharing it with plants. ;D ;D.

But I had a strange request from my neighbor farmer, he is growing yellaki banana and asked for a bottle of whiskey from my CSD. When asked, he said he will dilute it and spray on his yellaki banana bunches. Said the yield will increase and also the color. Gave a bottle to him, dont know whether he consumed it or sprayed it to bananas. Though I never saw the harvested banana.

When I asked others they said its a norm here to spray Raja Whisky, the cheapest one in market.

Yes. I have done it after suggestion from Dr. Suresh or Biofarms and it gives good results. I did that when the plants were small to improve the metabolic activities.

Hi,

Can you give more details. For the benefit of all ? And also on the response from plants. When you do it, what are the results etc etc.

If its toddy or rum from molases or vodka from potato, then this is Organic. ;D ;D Any IMFL, its synthetic so must be Inorganic :astonished: :astonished: ;D ;D

Hi?

In recent pat I met with a Farmer who is qualified Engineer and farmer by profession who has unique achievement to contribute to get famous Bangalore Dog ridge rootstock for Grape crop. Owning 10 acres of land and completely dedicating entire time and most of the land for developing root stock nursery for grapes and for mango. He struggled for long 10 years to achieve this stage.

Well to do family background, travelled the globe to know the best moments of life, and finally decided to enjoy the life with Mother Nature. He claims that the ultimate place for all living being is earth, instead of associating with ate the end of the life, better to serve now itself to enjoy every moment of life with earth wonders by studying the nature to fulfill stomach and desire.

He is happy with what he is now with farming and the earnings he got for his efforts. Still he loves to stay at farm even he owns house at Malleshwara a prime residential location in Bangalore.

It is true that for a person who want to associate with agriculture should first associate with nature.
Once you know and adopt system of nature power, then any one can win the game of only protection and production of produce.

Agriculture is like small baby requires sole service to it.
Once baby is well grown and then we can expect anything we want from it.

Hi?
Due to heavy work/tour etc I forgot the produce grown in my farm itself.
30 month old mango plant given 750 grams Mallika mango against average about 350 grams of fruit.
By growing inter crop of papaya, I forgot to put much efforts for growing Mango and the result is 750 gram mango in picture.
That is what the benefit of doing inter crops to get maximum yield and happiness
The taste is so good of the fruit repined in the plant itself.

Namaskara,
Yesterday I had been towards Devanahally, on the way, One plant attracted my attention with its fruit colour,
Castor is normally bears green fruit bunch, but for my surprise its colour id pink, see the photo.

The farmer who had about 40 acres out of which 36 acres gone to BIAL, with the leftout only 3 acres out of 40,
He grown Coconut, Mango, sapota, litchi, Pannerale, Jamun, Ginger, Cater, Tamoto, beans etc.
Further he is having 6 cows for milk, 4 sheep and loves to live in farm itself, now that farm is on road side after expansion etc.
Still he earns a good income out of agriculture activity with the assistance of his son.

For my question on the produce in photo, he said it is used for preparation of medicine, more details not available.
Can any one may please come up with any more information on this colored costar.

Further see the sahajeevan of Castor and ginger which are happily living together.

Collected 3 verity of costar seeds with love ( They have not accepted money for seeds) & conditions that I should show the crops when they come to see my farm.

After extracting entire sweat in the body for leveling the land in Bangalore dry weather, now time for relaxing in cool monsoon in western ghats which is my 2nd home area (See the person chilling) feeling good in both body and mind.

Sakaleshapura is the place where I can see both Malnad & weather like Bangalore.
Going to stay in a great farmer who is self sufficient to live like a king with his 4 acres of wonder land in Agriculture.
Will back with his achievements in the noon.

Namaskara,
In continuation of searching new nature, had been to Kagineri which is living heavenly nature.
This is the time for Garcinia Gummigatta Photo No.1655
(Manthuli in Kannada) is found in large, farmers preserving them for feature use,It is used extensively in Malnad coastal area.

Another fruit is Garji Hannu (Photo no-1657) in Kannada is available which is less known fruit.
This throned plant climb trees and gives very good fruits during this time.
Its fruits have got very good taste as well as medicinal qualities (not known exactly) as per the local farmers knowledge.

After dried in hot summer kind of weather in Bangalore & Kolar, the weather is chilling here with drizzling with fog.
Feeling that living in the heaven.

Namaskara,
After Kagineri, visited to Somwarpet in which a friend by name Kalista who is very kind of person having about 80 acres of coffe and other crops. He taken me along with my friends to a place is called as Mandalpatti which is very beautiful place in Kodagu.

On the way, I found a less known fruit in India and popular fruit in Hawai of USA is Mysore Rosbery plant in the forest along with wild turmeric planted which have collected to my collection and 2 sapling have given to donate to IIHR for their gen bank.

Planted drumstick seeds at peak area of Mandalpatti and requested the forest deportment officials to manage them properly. Further assured them to donate Apple plant to know its results as the climate is very much suitable for apple cultivation. If it may get success, then to extend it in large quantity in that area.

Enjoyed up to two o clock from morning 11 am and returned with great experience.

Next about tree tomato.

Hi friends, I am really interested in agriculture tourism. I am farmer, yearly I take two types crops in my land. I wan’t to increase the production in my land. so, I need collection of information about plants and crops like how to more protects plants? How many water is essential for plants, which types of soil is needed, which machinery can use etc. Agriculture Tourism is the practice of attracting travelers or visitors to an area or areas used primarily for agricultural purposes.

Namaskara,
During my tour to Kodagu on 15-Jul-2012, I met a farmer who cultivated a lemon which looks like orange, its pulp can be removed like orange and farmer claims that one liter juice can be prepared with one lemon.

I bought lemon as well as seeds for my data base and to grow.
As per my observation Coorg & Malnad areas farmers in Karnataka are really innovators, every one is master in his own field.
I salute them for their talent.

During my last tour in Kodagu, I have collected a tamota verity which is unique charester of its freshness and shelf life up to 15 days from the date of harvest, Once it is planted then it can give fruits for 10 years i.e TREE TAMATO.

It is less known fruit which has got bright feature, herd tha it is commonly cultivated in NE of India.
I have collected fruits and new made seeds out of them for growing here in Bangalore and Kolar area.
It may also cultivated in other parts of the world. Any one can come up with further more details of this tamota?

Hi?
While traveling in Bangalore city, I noticed one kind of rare fruit for me and asked vendor about it , he informed that it is from Kashmir.
It looks like wood apple, but its sking was very smooth and flesh was little sweet than wood apple (Beri Kaai)
Can any body please inform about it?

That fruit from kashmir, looks like a “Pear”. Some are green, yellow or brown depending on variety. The flesh inside is like that of apple, but softer.

Fruit is mostly grown in colder climates as it requires a chilling temp to fruitify.

Hi Swamy

You can check the below link for more information about the tree tomato. Apparently it grows in the mountains/hilly regions and requires very well drained soils. Available in red/black varieties.
