Hello All in Bangalore

Maybe you guys already know this still
One of the farms had visited last year was Vanashree - same website also - Srikanth and Preeti have been farming for 10 years. Wonderful people and are there most weekends and willing to share info -
Murali - he has been growing yeleki banana’s organically (hope spelling is correct) for sometime. So maybe he can help answer questions of TC for this type of banana

navadarshanam.org/ - they have 150 A all organic and sustainable close to TN border. Older people but have a wealth of info
They have study group circle and plan to meet weekly or monthly - will send more details soon.

Madhavi

Hi Madhavai,

Yes I had visited Vanashree some time back. I have seen their yelakki banana, grown organically, but the size of the bunches were pathetic. At present not much is happening there.

Before that, I should welcome you on board. Navyadarshanam, is more or less community living with some rural stuff sold in cities.

;D ;D ;D We are all waiting for invitation from Swamy. ;D ;D so that we can visit his farm. Swamy is one person on the forum who has given confidence that more than a lakh can be taken per acre per year.

Me, AK, Heggde and others are waiting for swamys invitation.

Regards

Murali

Madhavi,

I visited Vanashree about a month ago. While Srikanth’s work is definitely commendable, that farm is still in its gestation period as far as produce is concerned. As per my experience and calculation, that farm is taking at least 1-1.5 lakhs/year from outside as of now for maintenance.

All,

As an update, Hegde and I visited each other’s farm (if we could call it that) last weekend. It was a good learning experience for me, getting to hear from Hegde’s brother about Nutmeg and Areca cultivation. We also visited Sri.Nandeesh’s farm near Shikaripura. That’s definitely one place to visit, especially for you Murali! He speaks from experience and he is the only person who practices “natural farming” as closely as possible (that I have come across).

We should try and meet up once again sometime soon, probably get some new members to join us this time. The ideal thing to do would be to visit some farm near Bangalore - maybe Sri. Kailash Murthy’s.

Thanks,
AK

Hello Hegde sir,

Nice pictures.
Just curious what kind of nutmeg trees do you grow. How has been the yield pattern?

Thanks
Biju

Thanks.

Not very sure of the name of the variety, i will try to get it, my dad has been growing since his teenage, so some trees should be around 45+ years. Yield is mostly consistent, but as in all other variety, there are years with lesser yield. It all organic cultivation.

We have this as inter crop with Areca and Coconut, a 10 year old tree will fetch you approx 8 -10 kg of nutmeg when the tree is older and have larger canopy it would yeild more. I will check with by bro again and reconfirm the figures.

What news from the Bangalore folks - no more meets?
I see members like Murali have not turned up in weeks - all well with everyone?

Bangalore folks should meet up soon, at least in honor of Murali who was the key person behind Bangalore meet #1. I am open Nov 10-11.

Nov 10,11th are good. I hear that there is some organic crop fair happening in Lalbagh premises on these days. It will be a good time to meet some organic farmers also.
