hey aman!
i too am having a bit of issues with bottle neck shape.
i am using Gallium to over come that. lets see how that works.
any suggestions by you ?
and about the bed width & height and walkway width, my beds are about 90cm in bottom, 80cm on top, height is about 40-50 cms. walkways are about 40cm. i dont think there is any standard for this. but a certain distance should be inbetween the plants for proper space, air flow, sunlight etc.
walkways shouldnt be too small, nor too big to waste space. wide enough for proper movement of buckets, crates , labor, avoid damage to plant etc as per your plan and requirement.
my beds are all uneven, some are 80cm wide, few are 70 and few even 60-65 cm. all because of human error and my less involvement. but the beds are fine, i do not have any problems as such with them.
about support, give me time to click proper pictures, so you’ll get a better idea.
also i am working on a auto coil spring based support system, which once tied to the shoot, will automatically pull the shoot and maintain a certain tension on the strings.
foggers are installed on top, but misters are at the drip level. CORRECT ME IF m wrong.
For gerberas foggers are used and for dutch rose misters are used. why ?
oh yea! right! upper side foggers and bottom foggers . sorry, i didnt realize.
no clue as to why for roses and certain crops, may be crop specific requirement?
maybe misting system cools down the temperature from lower side and goes upwards, and fogging starts from top and then goes down slowly…
maybe depending on the type of setup, cause warm air goes up.
hmmm… interesting topic aman… lets dig more into it.
Mr.Ak, plz start a cucumber growing experience post and i will join u there
i’ll post the pictures of my cucumber setup, once i am back, so u can help and guide me.
and yes, grow bags indeed, my mistake. so why grow bags? why not open soil beds?
and you have a polyhouse setup right ? cucumbers have like male and female plants, and need artificial pollination (not self pollination like capsicum) so what practise are you doing for that ?
Good day

[/quote] HELLO VIKS YES CUCUMBER PLANTS HAVE MALE AND FEMALE FLOWERS AND NEED POLLINATORS LIKE HONEY BEES. HAVING MALE AND FEMALE FLOWER ON THE SAME PLANT IS KNOWN AS MONOECIOUS… BUT ANOTHER TYPE IS THERE. IT IS KNOWN AS —PATRHENOCARPIC CUCUMBER— THESE PLANTS SET FRUITS WITHOUT POLLNATION. SO HONEY BEES OR ARTIFICIAL POLLINATION IS NOT REQUIRED. THESE TYPES ARE BEST SUITED FOR POLYHOUSE CULTIVATION. VIKS ARE YOU USING ARTIFICIAL POLLINATION METHODS ? IF SO PL. EXPLAIN. ALSO PL POST YOUR SCHEDULE FOR ORGANIC NUTRIENT SUPPLY.---------------------------------------------------------------- THEN ABT THE PICTURES— IT SEEMS THAT ALL YOUR PLANTS ARE WITH HEALTHY GROWTH. I HAVE A FEELING THAT THE FRUIT SIZE IS SMALL[ though the pic shows only immature fruits]. that may be due to the varietal character. what is the wt of an average fruit? . the plants are in good shape and i wish you bumper harvest. ----the crop is in polyhouse or under shadenet?
abt fruit malformation—most probably due to pottasium deficiency as told by aman. correct it and the malformation will stop.----
HI NEWAGRO— YES I AM USING COIR PITH MIXED WITH SOME ORGANIC MANURE AS MEDIUM
Please post some pictures of your cucumber production and if possible please start a new blog targeting cucumber, that way we will be able to learn more from experienced farmers like you. cucumber is a major salad crop and used in households throughout the year because of which demand is always high. sir, i do have a little question for you. what are the benefits of cultivating cucumber in protected farming, because their are many people who even do it outdoor and the fruit size is same.
also, i guess you meant ‘parthenocarpic cucumber’ .
if parthenocarpic, which variety and company seeds do you prefer ?
I am new to this forum and i am a IT professional who wish to venture in to agriculture in coming years. Your topic and further discussions gives me lot of knowledge and confidence in agriculture especially in the green house where we can create / manage to give suitable climate to the plants to grow and give yields more than traditional method. Thanks a lot for share such a important information and experiences.
I am about to start a polyhouse farming in my land which is near to Ranipet, Vellore district, Tamil nadu. unfortunately no subsidy from horticulture board of Tamilnadu.
I have a question, might be strange one. is it possible to grow black pepper in the polyhouse by providing suitable climate? because of the demand and good price for black pepper, is it viable to try it in the polyhouse?
Hello Mr.Sethu,
really surprising to know there are no subsidies in your location. have you checked with NHM and NHB as well ?
black pepper is good, but then how much quantity are you expecting from 1 acre of polyhouse?
polyhouse cost is high, 1 acre would be anywhere starting from 15-20 lakhs. then the machinery setup additional. so will the production of blackpepper and the price be justified for your investment?
i really dono how much production one blackpepper plant gives and the cycle, life etc. so if you work out the details and find the returns are fair, i think its an excellent idea.
