Which month Pomegranate blossom in North west Maharashtra?

I’m planning to plant Pomegranate in Shivalik hills. Just to figure out the time of fruit maturity, I’m keen to know when the pomegranate blossom in North West Maharashtra and also in Sri Ganganagar area of Rajasthan.

I would appreciate your response to my query.

Pomegranate plants flower and provide fruits throughout the year in central and southern India.
Depending on patterns of precipitation, flowering can be induced during June-July (mrig bahar),
September-October (hasta bahar) and January-February (ambe bahar). In areas having assured
rainfall where precipitation is normally received in June and continues upto September, flowering
in June is advantageous; where monsoon normally starts in August, flowering during August is
beneficial. Areas having assured irrigation potential during April-May, flowering during January can
be taken and where monsoon starts early and withdraws by September induction of flowering in
October is possible. Considering comparable yields, prices and irrigation needs it is recommended
that October cropping could be substituted for January flowering.

[/quote]. D. . Dear Sri jskasyap, pomegranate plant flowers three times a year, on mrig bahar, hastha bahar and ambe bahar. Mainly before leaving for crop, plant must be unwatered. For Maharashtra, Karnataka, Ap and telangana states, NRCP, solapur, gave recommendation to go for hastabahar crop or ambebahar crop. Mrigbahar is denied by them. Pl contact NRCP, Solapur , professors for further details on pomegranate. With best wishes , g.p.Rao. farmer.

I sincerely Thank you Mr Rohit and Mr Rao for your information.

Monsoons set in around first wee. week of July here. And being Shivalik hills at 3600 ft altitude the flowering would be around Feb March. How much time would it take to fruit development and would the monsoons interfere with fruit development and cause blight spots on the fruit?

I can manage irrigation. Here in himachal we can have flowering only in feb March…

I tried calling university of Solapur but they have very archaic procedure of writing letters and send them by post and keep waiting for the reply. Would appreciate if you know some Prof who is responsive enough.

Thanks

Dear Sri jskasyap,

The fundemental matter is, pomegranite is a Arid zone and Semi Arid zone crop. How it will react for your place can not be judged just like that. you may get some fruits but, may not be economical. Pl look in to it.

Crop duration depends on variety , like Bhagava in 180 days, Ganesh in 135 days, Ruby in 130 days, Mridula in 135 days .

Before going for plantation in commercial way, either pl speak to concerned professors of NRCP and/or planting few plants of diffarent variety of pomegranates and see the performance.

with best wishes, g.p.rao, farmer

Thanks Mr Rao.

I guess the maturity time of Phule Arakta is 120 days or so. Does anyone has experience on this cultivar?
