Mohan,
Go for the desi cows like the malenadu gidda, Red Sindhi, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, Rathi and Gir. Even jersey’s arewell adapted to indian conditions. Stay away from Holsteins unless you are willing to keep them in controlled environment.

Thanks Agri.
What about the commercial viability of the Indian breeds?
Regards
Mohan
Dear Mr Mohan,
Dairy farming with indigenous milch breeds like Gir, Sahiwal, Red Sindhi & Rathi is commercially viable. One can avail subsidy under DEDS for dairy farming with indigenous mich breed cows. These cows are well adapted to our agro-climatic condition & are more disease resistant in comparison to CB cows. To know more about economic viability of indigenous cow farming you can go through dairy farming project reports of my website www.odishavet.com Dr.A.K.KAR
Dear Mr. Mohan,
First option is Tharparkar for ur query. And second option will be Red Sindhi and Sahiwal for hotter climates. Other breeds performance ll reduced sure depends on climate I think.

Anbu
