Dear Farm nest friends ,
We have a ten acre land at Nagamangala Taluk , Mandya dist , Karnataka.
Currently we have about 300 coconut trees (10yr age) which are in the revival stage as they were not taken care of by the previous owners . he have adequate water from borewell and the entire land is having fence .
Kindly suggest if we can further plant the following :
Mango plants as intercrop option inbetween the coconut trees (Has this been tried out )
Neem + Silver oak for the Boundary
And some assorted fruit plants .
Existing coconut trees (10 yr age )revival plan
Any other viable suggestion are welcome .
Please refer the pics for information .
I think the experts will pitch in, here are few quick thoughts that come to mind
there seems to be lot of open space between trees, hence you should be able to raise intercrops
find out if cocoa would grow in your region. They need shade light hence might work for you.
once coconut trees grow healthy again I think you grow betel vine creepers on them
pine apple is one more thing that will grow in shade light
leaves of the trees are ranging from green to yellow to brown. Looks like they are short on water which you would have to supply. (i would recommend finalizing your intercrop plans before deciding on the irrigation system - drip/sprinkler etc)
boundary live fence would be a good idea
consider raising quick growing crops in the open patches that might provide quick returns to assist cash flow (might not be a concern for you but can only help)
Also, post the spacing between plant to plant and row to row as that might help others give you more informed suggestions.
