New to Diary Farming

Hello,

I m Having 10 acres of land with abundant water resource in Bidar District, Karnataka. I want to start a diary farm with 10 cows and 10 buffaloes. Here are some of my confusions.

  1. Can some one suggest me from where to get good breed of cows and buffaloes with good yield suitable for the region.
  2. Here people had said that cross breed HF cows from bangalore ,tamilnadu will not perform well, as the region is hot.
  3. Cost of Cows and Buffaloes with yield of more than 10-12 litre per day.
  4. feeding cost per cow and buffalo.
  5. what should be the feed for the cow and the buffalo. Can i be totally dependent on my agriculture land or i have to purchase some feed from outside.
Please suggest me, I am willing to start a diary farm in my small district.

Regards,
santosh

Hello Ashish Kumar,

Holstein Fresian available from Kaverippattinam near Krishnagiri or try Kariamangalam market (mattu chanthai) on tuesdays early morning.

Jersey getting good ones is difficult. Try buying calves from Nucleus Jersey Farm Ooty and maintain it well. Rear it, inseminate and take calves, increase your herd size.

Climatic conditions, don’t worry ?? if HF cows can survive in middle east, why not in India. Provide them good housing, temperature controlling devices, plant shade giving trees, keep sides of the shed open. Ensure drinking water in front of these cows always, hrs. All the best!!.

Hello Sir,

Kindly share more information about temperature controlling devices?
Which type of device is it?

Mr.Vishal Goel,

Fans having water sprinkling system is normally seen in farms where temperature is little high. It sprinkles water on cows body cooling it and give cool wind also. I think such fans are available in India too now a days. Clean the shed with water, cooling the concrete surface and pour water to wet the cows body twice a day - by 11 am and by 2 pm before milking.

Hello Sir,

Middle shed height  16 foot
side shed height 12 foot
Length 60 * 50

Is this good shed design for 25 HF cows?

Mr.Vishal Goel,

Please see these pics. The slope of the roof and ventilation very important. Please see these simple sheds for your info. Split roofing is better.
