Mangoes not flowering

Hello. A friends farm near Jawhar in Maharashtra has seen almost no mango flowering this year, including most of the trees in the village.

Is this because of climate change? Can anyone throw light on this?

It’s because of climate change. Even in Telangana, very less yield this year

Some reasons for failure of mango fruit set - Discussion: [4/2, 07:16] +91 98495 66009: మామిడి చెట్లకు కాయలే అగుపడుత లేవు
[4/2, 08:00] Pamidi Venkateswarlu: I had visited a similar garden on the outscirts if Hyd, with no or very sparse fruiting even after heavy flowering, which was sprayed 13 times from mid December with different PP Chemicals & nutrients. I guess that the reason may be no pollinators in the garden with continuous sprayings or in-compatibility & effect of some chemicals sprayed. Request the experienced, to discuss on this topic for arriving on some more probable reasons.
[4/2, 08:09] Kapil Farms Surendranath Reddy: Sir, You are Right, that was Main Problem.
Secondly this year delayed flowering, and Day Temperatures increased suddenly
Third, Proper irrigation may not start immediately after 70 to 80 % of Flowering Happened.

In my observation these three are reasons.

13 rounds of sprays from mid December is major Culprit.
[4/2, 08:15] Farmer Mahesh Reddy Vanaparthy: Even i am a victim of this situation. Worse was Banganpalli. This is a huge loss to the farmers and the nation. Can we not release an SOP for such things. When and what to do.
Spraying is a two way sword we kill pollinators and we also kill pesticides.
[4/2, 08:40] Vinod Kulkarni: The theory of specific selfish genes was propounded by Richard Dawkins of Oxford to highlight these selfish genes whose aim is to propagate only themselves not allowing others. This may explain why some living beings, especially wild animals exterminate other challengers so as to propagate their own genes. A good example is in some primates where the ‘Alpha male’ removes the old male ruler and his progeny to declare his superiority. Does the occurance of Allelopathy has similar basis in plants?
[4/2, 08:43] Pamidi Venkateswarlu: Thanks for your inputs. In this particular case, the flowering was in December. Late flowering and high temperatures might not be then problem. You mean starting irrigation at 70 to 80 % flowering affected fruit sets. The general recommendation is, starting irrigation at the Marble stage. But, people are irrigating continuously. A high percentage of hermoproduct flowers with a good fruit set noticed in the stray flowering at this present time. May be difficult to retain and further development of fruits at the present high temperatures. Let us continue discussion on this topic.
[4/2, 08:48] Pamidi Venkateswarlu: Dr Kulkarni sir, Please try to explain more elaborately on Allelopathy, for our understanding.
[4/2, 09:07] +91 94405 52660: Flowering and fruit set is good in some of mango plants in the paddy fields, mango plants near perennial rivers.
[4/2, 09:44] Vinod Kulkarni: We should not put crop competition and allelopathy in the same bracket. Although both involve competition, there is an important difference. Allelopathy is a strategic measure adopted by some plants to prevent other plants to prevail. This they do by releasing specific biochemicals antagonistic to germination and growth of other species.
Competition between lawn and other crops is due to direct competition for limited resources such as light, nutrients, water …
[4/2, 09:55] Pamidi Venkateswarlu: Let us know the fate of mango trees in paddy fields after 2 years. (except on bunds). Initially good flowering and bearing. After 2 yeas decline stated in most of the Nuzived area.
[4/2, 09:59] Pamidi Venkateswarlu: Mango might have acclamatised to the continuous wetting. What was the effect when you started the irrigation at flowering?
[4/2, 15:13] Vinod Kulkarni: Pamidi garu. I hope this also provides some info on allelopathy asked for by you.
[4/2, 15:29] +91 94401 94077: When mango tree grows in water stagnant condition there’s is necrosis of feeder roots which increSe stress leading to the production of ethylene and increased flowering. But over a period of time there will be tree decline

Yes I have been think8ng climate change as well. The winters were very warm this year.

And no pesticides are used here. It’s a remote village.

Climate change effect will not be confined to one area. That will influence the entire region. This failure of the mango fruit set is confined to a particular garden. Need case study to attribute the failure.

It’s the region. I said “most of the trees in the village”

Here in Punjab, This is very good flowering on Mango Trees.

We are from Tamil Nadu, Near Chennai and we didn’t use any pesticide or any spraying this year and the flowering in mango trees are late, but we did have considering number of flowers.
