Which cucumber variety ? Fresh cucumber or Pickling cucumber ? Average total cost,
total variable cost and total fixed cost of cucumber cultivation in polyhouse is higher than open field production system. Economically not viable for fresh cucumber cultivation purpose . But if your planning for pickling cucumber ( Gherkins ) then it’s profitable . Open field cucumber cultivation cost per acre is Rs 55K-60K max and in Polyhouse cultivation cost is 250-300K per acre ..5 times more than open field . Will you be able to sell cucumber at 5 times higher price to consumers either fresh or pickled ?

OK , if you have a steady business and investment capacity , why not start own polyhouse with MIDH-NHM ( National Horticulture Mission ) 50 % subsidy scheme . We can provide you agriculture lands irrigation facility and manpower in West Bengal ( Near Kharagpur ) , but it’s far away from your location . Won’t serve your purpose .
