High density Mango cultivation?

Hi all, I’ve decided to plant mango in a few acres of my farm. Does anyone of you or someone you know have experience with Ultra High Density and Medium Denisty mango plantations? Have you/they been successful? Please share your knowledge and advice on this topic.

Where is your farm located? You need to consider the agroclimatic and soil conditions before finalizing the crop.

Dear Sampath Sir,
Ultra-High Density Plantations UHDP and HDP of Mango plantations are successful, at several places of India.
Pl let us know where your subject land is located.
For HDP of Mango plantations, you should spare considerable time for pruning and for UHDP Mango plantations, you must spare more regular considerable time for pruning and shaping. Regular mango plantation may not much require your concentration.

If you are a full-time farmer, comfortably, you may select UHDP or HDP mango plantation and it is successful. Selection of mango variety, like Amrapali, also a very important base. Mango cultivars planting in UHDP, HDP must not be of Vigorous growth.

Suggest first you study yourself by using internet. There are lot of videos available and some of popular channels are, Janardan Waghere & IndoIsrael on YouTube for HDP & UHDP.

I have already done UHD Mango plantation of Kear, Himayath and Punasa. I am looking for help in training and pruning the plants. The planation is 1 year old and I am a full time farmer.

Some of the disadvantages od UHDP are -

  1. All mango varieties are not fit for UHDP …varieties to be a regular yearly producer, have resistance to powdery mildew and anthracnose, as well as other characteristics that make it an ideal cultivar, like drought tolerance, salinity tolerance, compact tree, and good shelf life.
    2.Requires intensive pruning and orchard management: laborious and time consuming . If you have full time farm workers , then it’s feasible .
    3.Shorter life span of the orchard in comparison to conventional orchard .

I have small 0.5 acre of farm land in Raigad district, is it feasible to carry out ultra high density mango farming in this space?? Note I am quite new to farming.

Does it work for moringa as well? I plan to do HDP for MORINGA to get pod/drumstick purpose. Also any suggestion for suitable variety for COASTAL KARNATAKA.
