Gravity drip or regular drip?

Dear sir,

Please let me know if gravity drip irrigation is feasible, workable and cheaper compared to normal drip connected to the borewell.

I have a five acre Guava orchard presently drip connected to the borewell. My farm is in Doddaballapur, Bangalore rural.

Please advise.

HI,

From what I had learned during my visits to the farms and in the interaction with the University professors- IT is imperative to have a good water feed at least once in 2 days initially and later as the plants mature - once a week or max once in 15 days. Considering this gravity drip irrigation will keep the soil moist ( best case scenario) and localized soil moisture (worst case scenario). you may want to re-evaluate based on the following parameters -

  1. power availability
  2. Water availability
  3. Investment scale.

Both have advantage s depends upon to site.
1.Drip is better if the water is conserved and used fully.
2.Drip is costly than borewell which is easy to maintain but wates the water .
3.Through drip you can use multiplayer farming and increase your increase many times.
How ever you have to survey in details

Dear Sriram,
Vanakkam. Yes, you can try The Gravity Drip System. But please make sure that the Water Pressure is not less than 1 kg/cm2. I don’t know what type of emitters / drippers you are currently using. We are using mostly 8 mm tap connected in a 16 mm drip hose and the taps are regulated manually so that the water outlet to all plants (orchard crops only) are equally distributed. Another issue in the gravity drip system is building a tank which is again an expensive project and maintaining it as algae free is a big task. Hope I have given you some facts about drip system. Please study the ground reality and decide.
Happy Farming.
