DearSir,
Thanks for the wonderful info. I have few questions. Reques:-) t you kindly guide me.

  • what is the name of variety in the image given by you
  • can this be grown in open field?
  • the common variety available in the market hardly fetches any price generally Rs.4-5. In this scenario pl clarify on the price as mentioned by you.

This is a multistar F1 hybrid cucumber grown for export market , used very much in Overseas countries for salad
This type of cucumber can not be grown in open field . It needs shadenet structure and staking for growing this cucumber .
The local cucumber varieties are low yielding type with 3-5 MT / acre
For export market single kg of cucumber is sold @ Rs.25-30 / kg…

The reason why this type of cucumber is not performing well in the open field cultivation is flowering and fruit sets are very low due to changes in the local weather condition

To conduct training we need class room/ Hall , OHP , screen , mike etc and accommodation for the farmers …Will consider in future if we have these infrastructures . If need be I will invite technocrats from Israel and South Africa . Just assembling and chit chatting in the name of training will never serve any purpose … To speak truth I dont have facilities to conduct training …

Dear Mr Ramu,

Does Cucumber require any pruning of the lower leaves and tendrils, there are some suggestions on the internet suggesting pruning. Would like your expert opinion on the same.

Thanks for your help

Yes pruning is needed in hybrid cucumber but not necessary in variety cucumber …in conventional farming with wide spacing there should not be any pruning .

In hybrid cucumber , depending on the spacing between seeds along the rows and between adjacent two rows , thinning of fruits is done ( limiting the number of fruits per vine ) and removing excessive branches …

Thinning and pruning are done to maintain uniform size and weight of the cucumber fruits that are produced for export market

But pruning of lower leaves should be done 2-3 nodes down from the bottom most axis that bear the fruits . Should not remove leaves in between two fruiting nodes

Thanks Ramu for the detailed reply.

Hi, I am cultivating cucumber near hosur, I am finding some problem with the plants and they are dying. Please suggest the remedy. I have drenched with fungo hit bio product for bacteria infection. And sprayed fungicide an

d neem extract.<img src=“/uploads/default/original/2X/d/d73429d20b3883c3e4162d64478b44d1149bb3b8.jpg” width=“666” height=“500”

Looks like bacterial wilt disease …When closely looking at soil , it is red lateritic that is hard around root zone causing artificial stress …Also this bacteria is spread by cucumber beetle …

Remedy - loosen the soil when doing weeding and spray insecticide to control beetle if any found feeding anywhere in the cucumber field .Generally preventive measures are best than control measures as far as bacterial disease is concerned …

1.Copper based fungicide for bacterial disease - but take care not to spray copper fungicide in dry weather

2.Agrimycin
