Could someone recommend the best cover crop to plant around our avocado trees? We want to suppress weeds, and fix the nitrogen in the soil. But we won’t want the crop to compete with avocado tree roots.
Palk, Podina, Coriander and other Leafy Vigetables but not Creepers.

I have the same issue and I would love to get a solution for over 3000 trees
Sir , it’s a misconception , that plants fix nitrogen in the soil . Certain leguminous plants ( Beans, alfalfa, runner, field, sweet, peanuts, soybeans, cream, black-eyed, or purple-hulled beans, lupins, lentils, cowpeas, chickpeas, pulses like green gram, black gram, red gram, red gram, cow pea and pigeon pea ) provided place for Rhizobium bacteria to grow and infect root hairs, causing nodules to form, where they live inside root cells as specialized, irregular structures called Bacteroids, converting atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia for the plant.
Soil also plays a vital role whether it’s suitable for leguminous crops growth or not ! Fact is plants and microbes work together, not in isolation ! First check Rhizobium bacterias are present in the soil or not ! If they are present then you can throw any wild , edible cover crops in the soil and they will do their job …if Rhizobium bacterias are reduced due to synthetic fetiliser application in the past …then you have to inoculate Rhizobium bacterias first in the soil ..followed by crop propagation
"I have about 300 maize plants growing right now. Since finding mulch has become such a hassle, would these work well as mulch for my areca , palms and other plants?
