resp sir ,
want to plant banana plant in my small land which i own , want to know all detail of how to go about it ,
Like “rohanrd” I have an agricultural plot of about 2 acres which has been used for rice cultivation a few years ago, but has remained unused since. I want to know the economics of planting tissue culture Banana (G-9 saplings). I have a borewell with adequate water supply. Could someone who has past experience give me answers to the following questions:
- When is the right time to plant the saplings?
- What would the planting density have to be ie. no. of plants per acre - spacing between rows and between plants within the row? I have seen a few sources of the saplings on this forum.
- What would be the estimated cost of other inputs over the cropping period?
- Is the time to harvest about 12 months?
- What is the average expected yeild of the fruit and the estimated market sale price of the fruits based on current prices?
Thanks
Ananth
HI,
I am planting banana G9 variety in my 10 acres plot at shirpur, dhule near jalgaon. I have consulted jain irrigations for the same. The cost per acre is approx 1 lakh and NP is around 3-5 lakhs per acres if sold in domestic market.
- When is the right time to plant the saplings? - june july
- What would the planting density have to be ie. no. of plants per acre - spacing between rows and between plants within the row? I have seen a few sources of the saplings on this forum. - 1500 plants per acre and spacing to be 5*6
- What would be the estimated cost of other inputs over the cropping period? - Rs 100,000 per acre o the top most limit
- Is the time to harvest about 12 months? - 10 months is purchased from jain irrigations
- What is the average expected yeild of the fruit and the estimated market sale price of the fruits based on current prices? - avg yield is 30 - 45 kg per plant , SP= Rs 12 - Rs 15 per kg in jalgaon market
Dear all,
From our studies it has been found that 6.5 x 6.5 feet best for Banana cultivation. If the spacing decreases there will be incidence of more diseases in ratoon crop. If adopt above spacing easily get 6-7 ratoons without much more complications.
Thank you
Good Luck

Sorry for asking this question in this thread.
But i am surprised to see the rates for Fertilisers
"“Urea (1950 kg/crop) Rs.4.78/kg 9,321.00 9,321.00
Single Super Phosphate (2775 kg/crop) Rs.3.24/kg 8,991.00 8,991.00
Muriate of Potash (1480 kg/crop) Rs.4.40/kg 6,512.00 6,512.00"”
Is this the present time Rates?? In chhattisgarh the avg rate is around 10-12 for UREA. SSP~10 and MOP ~18
or these rates are after some govt subside on the fertilizers?
