The TKM13 rice variety is a new paddy developed , with many good parameters favorable for both farmers and consumers
Salient features of TKM 13 – consumer point of view

  1. Medium ( fine ) slender white rice with high milling yield ( 75.5% ) and head rice yield ( 71.7%)
  2. High linear elongation ratio with superior cooking and organoleptic ( bio chemical property responsible for very good taste of cooked rice ) characters
  3. Most suitable for rice meals and Idly and dosha

  4. Alternative to BPT 5204 but superior in many respects
  5. Average per acre yield is 3000 kgs under ordinary cultivation practices but has extraordinary yielding potential with average per acre yield upto 4000 Kgs under SRI cultivation method.
  6. Early vigor – sprout and grow fast
  7. Duration of crop 128 to 132 days
  8. Plant height 96 CMS
  9. No of tillers per hill under 22.5 CMS * 22.5 CMS spacing = 35
  10. Plant population per sq m – 20
  11. Panicle length – 24.8 cms
  12. Filled grains per panicle – 255 numbers in primary tillers and average no of grains per panicle is 140

  16. Moderately resistant to pest and diseases like Leaf folder, stem borer Green Leaf Hopper( GLH ) and sheath rot blast and brown spot .
    The Rice develops small hairy formations all over its leaves and stem making itself inaccessible for the insect pest to rest and lay eggs and keep it away from causing damage to the crop
    It is highly responsive to fertilizers and manures application enhancing plant potential to give more yield .

    It can be cultivated successfully in delta and other irrigated lands …
    It does not lodge during heavy rain because of strong tiller base
