Yes, gidda’s milk is comparatively high on fat . But marketing Ghee would be a process in itself. But a good consideration thou. First phase probably would be just milk to be sold off at the KMF milk collection center close by. That has been one of the factors which has spiked up the interest in the investment. There are private dairy’s which pay 2 Rs more, but they are further away.
So CSPlantations, what was the outcome? Any progress in the last 7 months? I have a Malenadu Gidda cow and she is quite docile. I don’t know how she would react to a milking machine, but she seems okay with anyone milking her. So, maybe it’s just the attitude you have to be careful about while purchasing cows.
Anyways, it will be interesting to know what happened in your case.
My few month experience with desi cows ( close to ongole)
For every 8 cows ( including calfs) u need one full time labour if u have enough open grazing area. To provide water, clean the shed to remove dung and tie it back in the evening. To constantly monitor the “heat” time of each animal, provide dry fodder in the evening. Milk it in the morning and evening.
Labour charges per day Rs300. Assume dry fodder charges for all 8 animals per day is Rs 200
Milk yield to compensate labour charges and dry fodder charges at Rs 22/litre ( 500/22 = 22 litres)
Assuming 3 litres/day, I am being very optimistic, u need 7 milking cows out of herd of 8 cows
Highly Impossible commercial diary
Now if u want feed them by stall tied, u need an extra labour. The extra milk yield will not compensate extra labour.
